“Why are you upset as though you are just served Sambhar rice at a Muslim wedding?” Sivakozhundhu asks Sathya when he holds up a dull face after an issue. For all those who know that Nannbenda is another flick that exploits the Santhanam - Udhayanidhi chemistry, it is quite evident that ‘Sivakozhundhu’ here, is Santhanam and Sathya is Udhayanidhi.
A story that looks ordinary on paper, turns out to be a decent movie with the right kind of casting and decoration. Nannbenda is an attempted laugh riot that drags in the hangover from the previous couple of films that the two acted together. The movie brims with the typical Santhanam style counter attacks packaged in a lighthearted “helping-friend-in-following-girl-and-finally-impressing-her” story.
The problem with movies such as this, is that it either makes you roll between the armrests of your seat laughing or you sit there emotionless wondering what is happening. The movie is completely dialogue driven, so much that people might be able to follow the story just by closing their eyes and listening to the conversations that happen - and of course still laugh if the comedy works for you.
Only few people can make people giggle for dialogues like “who is encountering my counter” and “please stop smelling your cap and show us your face” and that is exactly why Santhanam is easily one of the top comedians in K town. If it was the "thean-ada" dialogue that worked in favour of Santhanam's romance story in his first outing with Udhayanidhi, it is something else with Sherin this time round.
However, there are a few logical errors like a normal hotel manager taking a business loan for the development of his owner’s hotel and the lead actors loitering around in jail premises without wearing a prison uniform.
Nayanthara is as beautiful as ever, grabbing the attention of the viewers through her gracious screen presence and performance.
The interesting part of the film is that some of the characters in the form of Motta Rajendran, Karunakaran, Susan George and a few others are not wasted as they are involved in the effective building up of the fragile storyline.
Karunakaran’s combination with Santhanam and Udhayanidhi has worked out well, especially in the scene where they meet after a short gap.
Although the songs have been placed badly in the film, they have been picturized well by cinematographer Balasubramaniem; Nayanthara looking dashing in the ‘Nayanthara’ and “Nee Sun-oh’ songs, with an evident improvement in Udhayanidhi’s dance moves. Harris Jayaraj’s music and BGM stand tall for the movie, serving as one of its USPs.
Produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin under the banner Red Giant Movies, Nannbenda is a film where you can go without expectations, giggle through the movie and walk out of the theater without taking anything from it.
நாயகன் உதயநிதி தஞ்சாவூரில் எந்த வேலை வெட்டிக்கும் செல்லாமல் ஊர் சுற்றி வருகிறார். இவருடைய நண்பரான சந்தானம் திருச்சியில் ஓட்டல் ஒன்றில் மேனேஜராக பணியாற்றி வருகிறார். வேலை வெட்டி எதுவும் இல்லாததால் மாதாமாதம் சந்தானத்துக்கு சம்பளம் போடும் சமயம் பார்த்து திருச்சிக்கு சென்று அவருடைய பணத்தில் ஊர் சுற்றி, ஜாலியாக பொழுதை கழிப்பதை வாடிக்கையாக வைத்து வருகிறார் உதயநிதி.
அதுபோல், ஒருமுறை திருச்சிக்கு போயிருக்கும்போது அங்கு நயன்தாராவை பார்க்கிறார். பார்த்தவுடனேயே அவள்மீது காதல் வயப்படுகிறார். நயன்தாரா வங்கி ஒன்றில் பெரிய பதவியில் இருக்கிறார். மிகவும் நேர்மையான அதிகாரியான இவர் ஹாஸ்டலில் தங்கி பணிபுரிந்து வருகிறார்.
நயன்தாராவை எப்படியாவது கவரவேண்டும் என்று உதயநிதி அவருக்கு பிடித்த விஷயங்களாக பார்த்து செய்து, அவரை கவர நினைக்கிறார். ஒருகட்டத்தில் நயன்தாராவுக்கும் உதயநிதி மீது காதல் வர ஆரம்பிக்க, தன்னைப் பற்றிய விஷயங்களை அவரிடம் கூற நினைக்கிறார்.
அதன்படி, தான் சென்னையில் வேலை பார்த்தபோது, வங்கியில் நடைபெறும் குற்றங்களை தட்டிக்கேட்க, கடைசியில் வங்கியில் தனக்கு கெட்ட பேர் ஏற்பட்டதையும், அந்த கோபத்தை நாயிடம் காட்ட அதில் அந்த நாய் இறக்கிறது. இதற்கு தண்டனையாக ப்ளு கிராசில் இவர் சிறை வைக்கப்பட்ட சம்பவங்களை உதயநிதியிடம் விவரிக்கிறார் நயன்தாரா.
இதைக்கேட்ட உதயநிதி வாய்விட்டு சிரிக்கிறார். எனக்கு நேர்ந்த துன்பம் உனக்கு சிரிப்பாக இருக்கிறதா? நீயும் ஜெயிலுக்கு போனால்தான் அந்த வலி தெரியும். உனக்கும் எனக்கும் செட் ஆகாது என்று அவரை உதறி தள்ளுகிறார் நயன்தாரா.
இந்த சோகத்தை தனது நண்பன் சந்தானத்திடம் போய் சொல்கிறார் உதயநிதி. சந்தானம், உதயநிதியையும் நயன்தாராவையும் சேர்த்து வைக்க பலவித முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொள்கிறார். அது எல்லாம் இவர்களுக்கு எதிராகவே அமைய, நயன்தாராவுக்கு உதயநிதி மீதான கோபம் அதிகரிக்கிறது.
இதற்கிடையில் திருச்சியில் பெரிய தாதாவாக இருக்கும் ஸ்கார்பியோ சங்கர் என்ற பெயருடன் வலம் வரும் மொட்டை ராஜேந்திரன் அவரது ஸ்கார்பியோ கார் மீது மிகுந்த பாசத்துடன் இருக்கிறார்.
லோனில் வாங்கிய அந்த காருக்கு சரியாக தவணை கட்டாததால் நயன்தாரா வேலை செய்யும் வங்கி அந்த காரை ஜப்தி செய்துவிடுகிறது. தன்னுடைய காரை மீட்க நயன்தாராவிடம் வாக்குவாதம் செய்யும் ராஜேந்திரனிடம் காரை திருப்பி தரமுடியாது என்று நயன்தாரா விடாப்பிடியாக இருக்கிறார்.
இதனால் கோபமடைந்த ராஜேந்திரன், தான் பாசமுடன் நேசித்த காரை தன்னிடமிருந்த பிரித்த நயன்தாராவை பழிவாங்க துடிக்கிறார். இதற்கிடையில் போலீசான கருணாகரன் சிறுவயதில் தன்னை அவமானப்படுத்திய உதயநிதி-சந்தானத்தை எப்படி பழிவாங்குவது என காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்.
கடைசியில், இவர்களின் எதிர்ப்பையெல்லாம் மீறி உதயநிதி-நயன்தாரா காதல் வென்றதா? இல்லையா? என்பதே மீதிக்கதை.
உதயநிதி இந்த படத்திலும் எளிமையான, யதார்த்தமான நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். தனது முந்தைய படங்களை விட இப்படத்தில் அழகாக நடனமும் ஆடியிருக்கிறார். முதன்முதலாக இந்த படத்தில் ஒரு சண்டைக்காட்சியிலும் நடித்துள்ளார். அண்ணாமலை படத்தில் குஷ்புவை வில்லன்களிடமிருந்து ரஜினி காப்பாற்றும் சண்டைக் காட்சியைப் போலவே, ரொமான்ஸ் கலந்த சண்டைக் காட்சியை அமைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். அது நன்றாகவே வந்திருக்கிறது. உதயநிதியும் அதை நன்றாக செய்திருக்கிறார்.
இப்படத்தின் நாயகி நயன்தாராவுக்கு படத்திற்கு படம் அழகு கூடிக்கொண்டே செல்கிறது என்றே சொல்லும் அளவுக்கு இந்த படத்தில் இவரது அழகு ரொம்பவும் பளிச்சிடுகிறது. படம் முழுக்க வரும் இவருடைய அழுத்தமான கதாபாத்திரத்திற்கு ஏற்ற நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்தி கைதட்டல் பெறுகிறார்.
சந்தானம் வழக்கம்போல் இந்த படத்திலும் தன்னுடைய காமெடி சரவெடியை கொளுத்தி போட்டிருக்கிறார். அது தியேட்டரில் விசிலையும், சிரிப்பையும் அடக்கமுடியாமல் செய்திருக்கிறது. கருணாகரன், மனோபாலா, மொட்டை ராஜேந்திரன் ஆகியோரும் தங்கள் பங்குக்கு தேவையான நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்திவிட்டு சென்றிருக்கிறார்கள்.
உதயநிதி நடித்த ‘ஓகேஒகே’ படத்தின் இயக்குனர் ராஜேஷின் சிஷ்யர் ஜெகதீஷ் இயக்கியிருக்கும் படம் இது. தனது குருவிடம் கற்றுக்கொண்ட மொத்த வித்தையையும் இப்படத்தில் இறக்கி சபாஷ் பெற்றிருக்கிறார் ஜெகதீஷ். தன்னுடைய முதல் படத்திலேயே மிகப்பெரிய நட்சத்திர பட்டாளத்தை வைத்துக் கொண்டு, அவர்களை திறமையாக இயக்கி வெற்றி கண்டிருக்கிறார். படத்திற்கு மிகப்பெரிய பலமே வசனங்கள்தான். அதை காட்சிக்கு ஏற்றவாறு அமைத்து அழகாக ரசிக்க வைத்திருக்கிறார்.
படத்தில் எந்த இடத்திலும் ஆபாசம் என்ற வார்த்தைக்கு இடம் கொடுக்காமல் குடும்பத்துடன் ரசிக்கும்படி ஒரு படத்தை கொடுத்ததற்காக இவருக்கு பாராட்டுக்கள்.
ஹாரிஸ் ஜெயராஜ் இசையில் பாடல்கள் பெரிய அளவில் ஹிட்டாகாவிட்டாலும், படத்தில் பார்க்கும்போது பரவாயில்லை என்றே தோன்றுகிறது. பாலசுப்பிரமணியம் ஒளிப்பதிவில் காட்சிகள் அனைத்தும் தெளிவாக இருக்கிறது.
